Can parents of a baby born with a birth defect expect the doctor or hospital to tell them it was caused by their mistake? Let's ask New York City lawyer Tom Markovits for this Ask The Lawyers Quick Question.

Tom Markovits:

I've been doing this for 40 years, and after 40 years, I don't think I've ever seen a situation where the doctors have told parents or any patient that's had the malpractice unfortunately occur that they performed malpractice or that their treatment or their operational what have you, didn't go well because of an error that they committed. So it's rare, there has been a movement amongst hospitals and health care providers to try to get healthcare providers to quote unquote apologize or own up to their mistake, but I've rarely seen it.
