Why is Zantac being recalled from stores? We ask Hawaiʻi attorney Wayne Parsons for this Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.
Wayne Parsons:
Zantac been found to have an ingredient in it, a contaminant called NDMA, and that contaminant is suspected of causing a wide variety of cancers. There are 18 different cancers that we're looking at that we believe there is a connection. Lung cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, stomach cancer. All types of cancers can be caused by NDMA and it's a contaminant in the Zantac that was found last year in some testing to appear in quantities 30,000 times greater than what the allowable amount is.
