Video Transcript:

I was contacted by a family who lost their father, the rock of the family, to a medical negligence mishap. He came here as a young man from another country with his wife to start a new family to start a career here. He had three children one of which was graduating college and going to medical school. Another that was in high school at the time and another daughter that was also in college.

The medical negligence was not in the performing of the surgery itself, but after the surgery while he was still in the hospital. He had a myocardial infarction, a heart attack, that was undetected because the doctors had not read the EKG. Neither the cardiologist nor the treating surgeon had reviewed the EKGs to know that he ought to recognize the impact of a myocardial infarction. If they had, his treatment would have been different. He could have been saved. But what happened instead is they discharged him after a number of days. He followed up with his cardiologist, and then within a month, he started to deteriorate greatly and actually had an emergent situation which caused him to die. The mom in order to be able to provide for her kids, and even though we did get a substantial settlement to help them on their way, the only way that she could afford to live here, since she was no longer she wasn't working, is to go back to her home country and give the support to her children. We have good news that her kids have been able to fulfill their careers.

Her son is in medical school and they do see their mom on a regular basis.
