Fighting For the Underdog

Video Transcript:

Randy Hood:

You know, my grandma always said that I could talk well and I was either going to be a preacher, a disc jockey, or a lawyer, so I guess I've found the lawyer track.

In 1985, I graduated from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte working for a shoe store, and I worked there for the next four years. Toward the end, I started tending bar and waiting tables, and then found out that I was going to have a child, and I think I decided I've got to do something with my life, and I decided that I was going to go to law school.

I think I was what you would refer to as a “street lawyer”; if it came in off of the street, that's who I represented. My personality is such that I'm an underdog guy; always have been, always will be. I love sports, and it's a huge part of my life, and I root for the underdog. This was a way for me to actually make a living helping people that couldn't help themselves and kind of square the scales in regard to someone that didn't have representation; I knew that I would be able to almost approach it like an athletic event where you feel very confident and very comfortable in a position, and you just don't like to lose. So it fit me like a glove.
