Louisville, Kentucky Lawyer Helps Victims of Nursing Home Abuse

Video transcript:

Rob Rosenthal:

Do you know what to do if you think your loved one is being abused or neglected in a nursing home? We ask Kentucky attorney Tad Thomas in this AskTheLawyers™ Quick Question.

Tad Thomas:

You should do several things. One, is that you should call a law firm who specializes in representing families who have loved ones in nursing facilities. The firms like mine know the right question to ask, know what guidance to give you even before a lawsuit is filed or before you even decide to pursue the case. The second thing that you need to do is you need to be the squeaky wheel. You need to call that facility; you need to talk to the ombudsman in the facility or the facility director, and complain as much as you can to make sure your loved one is getting the care they need. The last thing that I would recommend is if your loved one has suffered a fall or a bedsore, or you think they're really getting mistreated, you need to call the State Inspector General's Office. Every state has a department that investigates neglect and abuse in these facilities.
