Rob Rosenthal:

Here's another Quick Question from AskTheLawyers.com. Do you know how much divorce filing fees are in New York City? Attorney Chaim Steinberger tells us.

Chaim Steinberger:

The filing fees in New York State are statutory, and there are a number of different filing fees that are involved, so when you first purchase an index number that goes on the summons, that's a $210 filing fee, and then when you request a judge to be assigned to it, there's another fee. When you make a motion, when you file a stipulation, when you file a separation agreement, so the fees themselves generally run about $425 for the filing of all of the papers required and processing a divorce. Of course, if I'm asked to lay out the money in advance and my firm adds a mark up to that, but if the client pays it themselves and then that's the number that they'll have to pay.
