How big of a problem is medical malpractice in the State of South Carolina? Let's ask South Carolina lawyer Randy Hood for this AskTheLawyers™ Quick Question.

Randy Hood:

There are hundreds of thousands of people a year that die, and millions that are injured by medical malpractice in the United States. If you think about it this way, if you think about two 747 airplanes going down every day, every day for a year, how long would it take for someone to find out what was going wrong and to fix it? Well, that's what's happening. It's caused by a lot of different things; it's under-staffing; it's lack of compensation because people are going to places and small places and they just don't care. But at the end of the day, 10% of all people in any profession, 10% to 15% are probably not going to be very good at what they do. There's going to be a certain percentage of that segment of folks in that profession that aren't very good at what they do, and that's usually who we face in most of our cases.
