Rob Rosenthal:

Do trucking companies sometimes push drivers to unsafe limits for hours and miles? We ask personal injury lawyer Tom Metier for an Ask The Lawyers Quick Question.

Tom Metier:

Yes, in my experience, 40 years of it, I have found that trucking companies are often pushing truck drivers to drive too many hours, to put them in conditions that are frankly sometimes kind of inhuman. Truck driving is a very tough job, and when your employer is pushing you with the threat of losing your income if you don't comply, why that's a dangerous situation with truck drivers behind the wheel for too many hours. You know, we all need to pull over when we're tired, but if you have an employer telling you, "You must continue to drive," that's very dangerous for you and for everybody else on the highway, so... Yes, that's a problem.
