What is Essure?

Essure is a permanent birth control device manufactured by Bayer. It is inserted into the Fallopian tubes, with the goal of creating scarring. This scarred tissue would in theory block the release of eggs. However, according to several thousand lawsuits, the device is not working as intended, and is instead creating severely painful side effects.

What are Common Complaints About Essure Side Effects?

According to these complaints, many women who received the birth control device suffer from extreme pain. The problem is that these devices are migrating out of the Fallopian tubes and puncturing other organs in the body. They can implant inside the uterus and vaginal wall, which is extremely painful. Other complaints allege that the device broke down into small pieces and caused harm throughout their bodies. In December of 2018, Bayer announced that it would stop selling the device. Many women have elected to remove the device or have the procedure reversed. This requires either an outpatient procedure or a hysterectomy.

Video Transcript:

Well Essure is a permanent birth control device. Basically it is two wire coils that are to be inserted into a woman's Fallopian tubes to develop scarring to basically block the Fallopian tubes and block eggs from traveling down the Fallopian tubes. So the problem with the Essure devices is that they can migrate out of the Fallopian tubes and end up puncturing various parts of a woman's body. They can migrate and implant into the uterus and the vaginal wall and cause severe pain, and women are having to have hysterectomies. So right now there is a mass tort litigation that is proceeding against Bayer AG, the manufacturer of the Essure devices. And this litigation seeks to compensate these women for the pain and suffering that they've undergone through the unneeded and unnecessary hysterectomy that they've had to undergo, basically forcing them into pre menopause or full menopause stages in their life that are premature. At Marc Whitehead and Associates, we specialize in representing women across the country on defective medical device cases, on defective products, on dangerous pharmaceutical products as well. And what we do is we band together with experienced attorneys all over the country to bring thousands and thousands of women together so they can combine into a force to be reckoned with to take on a large company like Bayer.
