A lot of times people ask, "Is there a type of litigation that you do, John, which can, so to speak, change the world or change an industry?" The answer is yes. And that's one of the reasons why I love doing product liability work, because in some types of cases that we do, we may take the case to trial, get a verdict, and it's good for the family, it's good for the judicial system but it doesn't change things on a large scale. In the product liability field, a lawyer, a client, you have the ability to change the world. And when you look around at so many of the things that we see that make for safety in our lives, safety for children, safety for elderly people, so many of these things came as a result of litigation. There would be a problem. There would be a product that was defective. The government would do nothing about it. The manufacturers would do nothing about it. Engineering societies would do nothing about it. Juries would make a decision: that product is defective, and the industry had to change what it was doing.
