Colorado Lawyer Explains What to Do

Video Transcript:

Rob Rosenthal:

Do you need your own lawyer if you're hit by a drunk driver and injured? We asked Denver attorney Brian MacKenzie in this AskTheLawyers™ quick question.

Brian MacKenzie:

The prosecutor can help the victim by allowing them to make a Victim Impact Statement; and there's also something called restitution, where the victims can get some compensation for what's occurred as a result of the drunk driver's actions. However, I highly recommend you contact a private attorney when there is any situation involving a drunk driver, because you have various rights that need to be pursued. There could be multiple insurance coverages available to you, and those rights go above and beyond what a prosecutor can do. So, if you are involved in an accident with a drunk driver, you need to consult an attorney immediately.
