This video features Nancy J. Winkler, a Medical Malpractice attorney based in Pennsylvania.
Rob Rosenthal:
What are some different types of medical malpractice in an emergency room? We ask Pennsylvania attorney Nancy Winkler for this AskTheLawyers™ Quick Question.
Nancy Winkler:
Well, when you say levels there are different types of malpractice that occur in the emergency room. It could be a situation where a patient comes in with chest pain and they're not triaged promptly enough and they may have a heart attack while they're waiting to be seen. Those are horrible, unfortunate situations that we have seen. A lot of times the emergency malpractice occurs because the emergency rooms are understaffed; there are emergency room physicians that are oftentimes trying their best, but when there's inadequate staffing, sometimes things slip through the cracks. An X-ray might not be reviewed, a medication might not be dosed properly, somebody might not be seen as promptly as they should be.
