What To Do If The Hospital Overlooks a Traumatic Brain Injury

Video Transcript:

Christine Haas:

Are brain injuries always diagnosed immediately after an accident? We ask Arizona attorney Timothy Tonkin for AskTheLawyers Quick Question.

Timothy Tonkin:

No, actually, literature suggests that 80% of brain injuries are missed in the initial hospital setting, so it's important that people complain about what symptoms they’re having, they go see their general practitioner, that general practitioner gets them out to a neurologist. The neurologist orders an MRI scan, not just your normal MRI scan, but an MRI with DTI, diffusion tensor imaging, in order to make sure that we are able to diagnose the injuries properly.
