Vaught has four decades of experience practicing law.

After graduating college, Vaught worked several different jobs before deciding the best way he could help people was by attending and graduating law school. He has been practicing law for almost 40 years, and still believes that practicing law is one of the best ways to make a difference in people’s lives. His decades of experience practicing family law have given him the opportunity to see and work on all kinds of cases, giving him a broad understanding of the field and the skills needed to help families in a vast myriad of situations. The motto of his firm (“We understand. We can help.”) is rooted in his belief that people going through situations that call for the help of a family lawyer need compassion and understanding on an emotional level just as much as they need legal help.

He believes in caring for his clients as people.

In larger law firms, there can be a tendency to begin treating clients as mere numbers or faceless cases. Vaught believes in caring for people as individuals, giving personal attention to each case, and expressing understanding for their situations. He is a strong advocate for his clients, using his expertise and lifetime of experience to meet their needs in whatever ways he can. Although he admits he is not a therapist, he believes offering emotional objectivity as well as sharing anecdotes from his own life is a good way to support his clients both emotionally and practically. Matters involving family law tend to be fraught with understandably emotional issues, and he believes in the importance of letting his clients know they are cared for in his practice.

Video Transcript:

Well, I've been practicing law for just about 40 years now, and I did some different things. After I graduated college, I worked in several other jobs for three years before I decided to go to law school. I felt that it was a way to help people quite frankly and also to be able to make a difference.

I'm not a therapist, and so I usually tell people that, although there's a lot of common sense advice you can give people I'm able to create a sort of emotional objectivity. And so it helps me be a better advocate for them. It helps to be able to be more objective, quite frankly. Not that I don't empathize for people, not that I don't understand, and sometimes I share my personal experiences and experiences of family members or people, to let them know that obviously I care. In fact, our firm motto is "We understand. We can help."
